Connie Morain Baker, MS
President and Executive Director
Connie was a rookie Child Life Specialist (Click for full bio) right out of graduate school when she met Donna Wong, a pediatric nurse consultant. Donna described Connie as her first “mentee,” the first person Donna mentored. And mentor she did. As they passionately pursued ways to help assess and manage pain in children, their relationship grew to a friendship in much the same way as with the other board members. With the help of many pediatric patients and families, they created the Wong-Baker FACES™ Pain Rating Scale. Connie’s passion for providing excellent care for people in pain has expanded from pediatrics to people of all ages, through her love of speaking, writing, and consulting.

Kristie has taught nursing at the University of Tulsa since 1982; it was soon after taking this position that she met Donna Wong in Tulsa through a local networking group for pediatric nurses, Pediatric Nurse Consultants (PNC). Led by Dr. Wong, this group met monthly to discuss issues in the care of children and families, provide encouragement for members to obtain graduate degrees, assert influence and provide support for nurses, work on publications and research projects, and share brunch and recipes. It was this group that started an annual conference on pain issues, Greater Tulsa Area Pain Conference. Now in its 16th year, the conference is administered by Saint Francis Hospital. Through the years of projects, meetings and support, Kristie and Donna’s relationship grew from professional to sister-friends.
