Connie Baker
Having the opportunity to get to know Dr. Donna Wong was foundational early in Connie’s career as a Child Life Specialist. Both women were concerned that there were not adequate tools to help children communicate about their pain and subsequently, the pain was not understood or managed well. They embarked on years of researching and writing, with a lot of great help from children. The rather surprising result is the effectiveness of the Wong-Baker FACES® Pain Rating Scale, now used with people of all ages, around the world.
Soon after Dr. Wong’s death in 2008, Baker and colleague, Lynn Clutter, PhD, RN, talked about ways to honor their friend’s legacy and continue the work Wong and Baker started years ago. This led to establishing the Wong-Baker FACES® Foundation, where Baker serves as Executive Director. Dr. Clutter is a board member, along with other outstanding healthcare professionals and friends of Baker and Wong’s.
In addition to her work with the Foundation, Baker is a licensed HeartMath® Provider, working one-on-one with clients around the nation focused on facilitating inevitable change to take place with greater ease, increasing quality of life. Stress slows healing. For people experiencing pain or caring for people in pain, there is a lot of stress. Learning tools in the HeartMath® System, clients are able to lift the burden of heavy stressors, gain clarity, accelerate healing, and promote a sense of well-being.
